Fall

Instead of posting about all the fun things we've been able to do in this beautiful fall weather, this post is about a different kind of fall that Ollie is very prone to that is not fun at all.

The swelling had gone down a little by the time we took these pics.

And believe it or not this looks 100x better than the inside of his mouth which he wouldn't let us look at.

Explanation: Ollie fell mouth first on the window bench in Ladd's room.  When I got to him blood was pouring out of his mouth.  I was fairly calm because two weeks ago he'd split his eye open on the same bench and after a quick visit to urgent care and a little glue he was fine (you can see the scar in the pics above).  He's a pretty tough kid, but he didn't stop crying for over an hour this time. When I was finally able to look in his mouth (with lots of popsicle bribes) I could see that his four front teeth where knocked way back and his gums were bleeding profusely.  I took him to the doctor and later a dentist friend stopped by and pulled his teeth forward a little, but there was nothing else we could do.  By that night the inside of his upper lip was completely black and he could hardly eat unless we cut things into tiny pieces.
Ollie wasn't quite himself for the next couple of days so we spent a lot of time cuddling, but mostly I was running around like a maniac trying to keep him from throwing himself off every piece of furniture we own.  Despite all my efforts, on at least a daily basis he'd figure out a way to bash his mouth in; on the bathtub, dresser, Ladd's head, etc.  It still makes me sick to think about how awful this fall was, but gratefully his mouth and teeth have healed.
